Abstract

This study aims to examine the integration of sports terminology in English language learning through Physical Education courses. The research focuses on three aspects: (1) improving the mastery of English sports vocabulary, (2) enhancing students’ motivation and engagement in the learning process, and (3) identifying effective teaching strategies to connect language and sports content. The participants were 30 students of the Physical Education Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kolaka Utara. The research employed a case study with a mixed-methods approach. Data were collected through vocabulary tests, classroom observations, interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The results revealed a significant improvement in vocabulary mastery after the implementation of physical activity-based learning using Total Physical Response (TPR) and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). Moreover, students were more motivated and confident in using English within sports practice contexts. These findings indicate that Physical Education can serve as an effective medium to enrich language skills while simultaneously enhancing competence in the field of sports. The study recommends collaboration between English lecturers and Physical Education lecturers in developing sustainable integrated learning models.
