Abstract

English language teaching in Indonesia still faces challenges, particularly students’ low learning motivation and limited vocabulary mastery. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of applying Total Physical Response (TPR) integrated with Physical Education activities in improving students’ vocabulary acquisition and learning motivation. The research employed an experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants were one class of university students (n = 30) who received treatment through TPR-based English learning involving movement instructions, sports games, and group activities. Research instruments included a vocabulary test administered before and after the treatment and a learning motivation questionnaire. The results of the analysis showed a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery and learning motivation after the treatment. These findings confirm that the integration of TPR and physical activities is effective in creating communicative and enjoyable language learning while supporting the holistic development of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects.
